A Short Story

Salam/Hi,

PLS PATIENTLY READ THRU THIS PASSAGE.

Qur'an 3:104: Let there arise amongst you a band of people inviting to all that is good and right, and forbidding the wrong. Such are the successful ones...

Qur'an 16:125: Invite to the way of your Lord with beautiful preaching and in the best ways...

Every Friday afternoon, after the Jumat service at the Central Mosque (and shortly after Al-Usrah program), the Imam and his eleven year old son would go out into their town and hand out "PATH TO PARADISE" and other Islamic literature. This particular and fortunate Friday afternoon, as the time came for the Imam and his son to go to the streets with their booklets, it was very cold outside, as well as pouring rain.

The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said, 'OK, dad, I'm ready!'

His 'Mallam' dad asked, 'Ready for what?'

'Dad, it's time we gather our tracts together and go out.'

Dad responds, 'Son, it's very cold outside and it's pouring rain.'

The boy gives his dad a surprised look, asking, 'But Dad, aren't people still going to hell, even though it's raining?'

Dad answers, 'Son, I am not going out in this weather.'

Despondently, the boy asks, 'Dad, can I go? Please?'

His father hesitated for a moment then said, 'Son, you can go. Here are the booklets. Be careful son.'

'Thanks, Dad!'

And with that, he was off and out into the rain. This eleven year old boy walked the streets of the town going door to door and handing everybody he met in the street a pamphlet or a booklet.

After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking, bone-chilled wet and down to his VERY LAST BOOKLET.

He stopped on a corner and looked for someone to hand a booklet to, but the streets were totally deserted.

Then he turned toward the first home he saw and started up the sidewalk to the front door and rang the door bell. He rang the bell, but nobody answered..

He rang it again and again, but still no one answered.

He waited but still no answer.

Finally, this eleven year old da'wah-expert turned to leave, but something stopped him.

Again, he turned to the door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on the door with his fist. He waited, something holding him there on the front porch!

He rang again and this time the door slowly opened. Standing in the doorway was a very sad-looking elderly lady.

She softly asked, 'What can I do for you, son?'

With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her world, this little boy said, 'Ma'am, I'm sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want to tell you that "ALLAH REALLY LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU" and I came to give you my very last booklet which will tell you all about God, the real purpose of creation, and how to achieve His pleasure.'

With that, he handed her his last booklet and turned to leave. She called to him as he departed. 'Thank you, son! And God Bless You!'

Well, the following Friday afternoon after Jumat service (during which period they hold a weekly program, Al-Usrah) the Imam was giving some lectures.

As he concludes the lectures, he asked, 'Does anybody have questions or want to say anything?' Slowly, in the back row among the ladies, an elderly voice was heard over the speaker. As the voice went on, a hint of glorious gaiety and contentment was plainly evident in it even though the wasn't to be seen,

'No one in this gathering knows me. I've never been here before. You see, before last Friday I was not a Muslim, and thought I could be. My husband passed on some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this world. Last Friday, being a particularly cold and rainy day, it was even more so in my heart that I came to the end of the line where I no longer had any hope or will to live. So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the attic of my home. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the roof then stood on the chair and fastened the other end of the rope around my neck. Standing on that chair, so lonely and broken-hearted I was about to leap off, when suddenly the loud ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought, "I'll wait a minute, and whoever it is will go away." I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell seemed to get louder and more insistent, and then the person ringing also started knocking loudly.... I thought to myself again, 'Who on earth could this be? Nobody ever rings my bell or comes to see me.' I loosened the rope from my neck and started for the front door, all the while the bell rang louder and louder. When I opened the door and looked I could hardly believe my eyes, for there on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I had ever seen in my life. His SMILE, oh, I could never describe it to you!
The words that came from his mouth caused my heart that had long been dead TO LEAP TO LIFE as he exclaimed with a cherub-like voice, 'Ma'am, I just came to tell you that ALLAH REALLY LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU!' Then he gave me this booklet, "Path To Paradise" that I now hold in my hand. As the little angel disappeared back out into the cold and rain, I closed my door and read slowly every word of this book. Then I went up to my attic to get my rope and chair. I wouldn't be needing them any more. You see? I am now a Happy Vicegerent of the One True God. Since the address of your congregation was stamped on the back of this booklet, I have come here to personally say THANK YOU to God's little angel who came just in the nick of time and by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity in hell.'

There was not a dry eye in the mosque. And as shouts of TAKBIR!!! ALLAH AKBAR!!! rented the air, even among the ladies, despite themselves.

Imam-Dad descended from the pulpit to the front row where the little angel was seated.... He took his son in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably. Probably no jama'at has had a more glorious moment, and probably this universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love and honor for his son... Except for One. This very one...Blessed are your eyes for reading this message.

DEATH

Hi / Salam to everyone.

I was browsing some of my old picture this morning and I found that I do have the picture taken when my friend was dying in the hospital. Well, she’s dead now but I was wondering, what will my death looks like? Am I gonna die with respect and honor, or am I gonna die with shame and regrets? Will it be painful or painless? Since I feel kind of weird thinking this way, I opened my internet browser and key in the word “Death”. I don’t want to tell you what I found but I think that death is probably viewed in two ways, from the physics and metaphysics part, or the science part, and the religious part.

If we view death from the science part, we will almost certainly say that death is the end of every living organism. Well, it is true that death is the end of every living organism. For human, death can be defined as the incapability of the heart and brain to maintain and regulate body condition. In other words, death occurs when your heart and your brain can no longer be used. Science also explained that when human died, they are simply turning from one form of energy to another. If science is true, that means humans are actually a bunch of energy that will be used by another living organism. What happened to human’s right in nature? Well, that is not a big question yet, here is the big question. What will happen after we died?

Since we can’t give the answer unless we are dead or having some kind of ability to be in both death world and real world, I think this is where religions play their role. In most religion, they believe in life after death. Means there will be heaven and hell. Some of the religions believe that we will be born again according to how we lived in the past. In Islam, whenever a person died, they will be questioned about their deeds during their life time and base on the answer, you will either be in heaven or hell. In Hinduism, they believe that human will be born again but according to their deeds, they will be born as human, or animal or any other forms of living organism. Here’s the question again, what proves do you have to support your argument?

In my view, I conclude death as the natural processes. We can’t run from them and waiting is just a waste of time. And since I don’t know what will happen in after life, I will just let it be until death knocks my door and give the answer. So, I might as well enjoy the very precious moment that I have right now, and remember to bear in mind that death is close to us.
That’s all from me, thank you for reading this post.

Euthanasia - Good Or Bad?

Hi and salam to everyone.

I was just finished watching House season 6 and I found something that has been one of the world's biggest issue nowadays. In the series, Wilson help his patient who has terminal cancer to die by giving him an extreme amount of morphine (if I'm not mistaken). Wilson said that the morphine will help the patient to relieve his pain. With the feeling of guilt, Wilson and House together with Cuddy go to a medical conference. In that conference, Wilson is trying to deliver his paper about euthanasia, before House drugged him and take out all of his pants (I like this House, haha). The question here is not about House, it's about what Wilson is doing. Do we consider the act as good or bad?

I googled the word 'euthanasia' and I found some really good articles about it. Euthanasia, is derived from the word "eu" and "thanatos" in Greek which means good and death respectively. The actual meaning of this word is the act of killing someone painlessly. Now, this act is bound by some factors before it can be classified as good and bad. First, ethics. Second, religions and last one is facts. Now, back on House, if you are really House's fans, I think you know that there is one time where House did this thing. I don't remember which seasons and episode, but in that series, House was asked to treat a researcher, in which he was diagnosed for terminal cancer at the end (if i'm not mistaken, again). He said to House he just want to die without suffering too much pain. House said he still has some times left before he died but on the next day, Cuddy said that during the night, everything when fine before the researcher's heart suddenly stop, and she asked whether House was involved in the event or not. House said no, but everyone knows how much of a liar House is.

Enough about House. I am sure that Euthanasia is consider bad thing if we go with ethics. Yeah, ethics is a system of principles governing the morality and acceptable conduct. Euthanasia simply means you have to kill someone, just without the pain. Ethics wouldn't allow us to do so because the killing part is unacceptable conduct. Although if the patient itself ask for euthanasia, people with ethics will think that they can't just take another person's life, although we are doing the person's favour. What the hell? This is my life, so it's up to me what am i going to do with it. That's maybe some of the stubborn old man phrase so that they will get to die easily.

Next, religions. In many religions, they said that life is sacred. It is a gift from God and only He can take it back. In Islam, there are phrase saying that suicide is strictly prohibited. Those who commited suicide will never enter the paradise. If we go with religion, they will say that euthanasia is prohibited, it is not because the act of killing, but the act of suiciding. They tend to believe that pain and suffer are things that is given by God to punish human for their sins or just to test their believe in their religion before they can gain the reward in hereafter. So by suiciding, you shorten the time needed for your punishment and this shows that you do not have enough faith in your religion and thus, will not receive any reward in hereafter. That is why religious people forbid us from performing euthanasia

The last one is facts. When a person is suffering from a terminal illness, the facts that they know are they gonna die soon. Or let say someone got into accident, and suffer terrible injury in their head. Lost their consciousness and now are using life support machine because their brain cannot do the job. In this case, we know that the person is already dead, so putting him on the life support machine will only cause an increase in the medical bill that they need to pay later on. So, they decided to stop using the life support machine and the person is pronounced dead. In this situation, the euthanasia is acceptable, because of the fact that the person has no chance of survival, and because of the fact that they need to pay more if he/she stays longer with the life support machine.

From this three factors, I decided to came up with my own thinking. Euthanasia can only be done if the person's brain can no longer be used. That means, the person is unable to think or gain consciousness. Why is it so? Because if you only have terminal cancer, your brain can still functioning despite of the pain that you feel. So, you can think of something and search for the cure by thinking process. We know that for every ilnesses, there must be a cure. Without thinking, we may not be able to know what the cure is, so by using your functional brain, you need to think of that cure. Give up means you're dead. If the person can no longer use his or her brain, that means he/she cannot think anymore. So it is good for us to just let they died because losing your brain is just the same as losing your whole body parts.

Before I end up this post, I just want to ask you a question. Especially if you are a doctor. Will you allow yourself to perform this act? Think first before you answer it. Thank you for your time and may this post help you in any ways of helping.

Human Make Mistakes

Hi and salam to everyone.

First of all I would like to apologize for not updating this blog in the past few weeks. I need to prepare myself for final exam which had just finished an hour before I write this post. For the past few weeks also, I've been thinking about what will happen if my result is not as good as it always be? I said to myself, well, nobody's gonna scold you because nobody dare. But I then ask myself again, the outcome of this final exam is clear, I will not be able to obtain the dean list title. What has happened?

Then I realize something that I should have done sooner. I made a mistake. The mistake's affecting me in the way that I don't realize it. Because I thought that it was just another habit of me. But yeah, let bygones be bygones. We can't change the past, but from the past we can shape the future. That is what I'm thinking about right now.

Speaking about mistakes, I recently read a newspaper, Harian Metro to be exact, and I saw a title about a teenager who lost her foot due to mistake made by the practical doctor who treated her. I read through the news and I think it was clearly the doctor's fault because of misdiagnosed her condition. I ask my friend who' s a medic student about her opinion. She said two things. First, we don't know the true story as we only read it in the newspaper. Second is the thing had already happened. What interested me is when she said this, "We are human. Human is bound to make mistakes."

I guess you might want to know why am I interested in that phrase. My argument is yes, human make mistakes. But some mistakes cannot be tolerant. Because the mistake is affecting other people's felicity. If doctor make mistakes, patient died. If an engineer make mistakes, the project might not work out and he/she will be fired, if a leader make mistakes, the follower will not trust him and what he lead will fall down, if a normal person make mistake by killing other people, he will received the title criminal in which will turn him into one later on. The big question is, how will we avoid from making any mistakes? Knowing that human WILL always make some mistakes?.

I'm sorry to disappoint you but we can't avoid mistakes. Well, it is part of life though. But one thing for certain that we can do is how to deal with the mistakes. People usually do not realize their mistakes, and this is again, a mistakes. I am pretty confident about the fact that people will only see mistakes on others but did not find one in theirselves. Many of the great motivators use this phrase to explain about human mistakes. But, how can one find a mistakes in his or herself? Only when the mistake is showing it's effect, then will they realize it. But at that moment of time, they are too late. So, what I thought was getting the upper hand is always the better way to deal with our mistakes.

Again question, how can we get the upper hand? This one is easy. By thinking process. Henry Ford said that thinking is the hardest process for human, that is why only a few engage with it. If you think thoroughly, I am sure you are able to handle the mistakes correctly. I can give you example but I know you can think it of yourself, IF, you think. Bear in mind that life is full with choices. Right choices are the most favourable but wrong choices coloured our life and teach us something useful. Just make sure you be prepared to face the mistakes you have done, and don't run from them. A few advice, whatever you do,make sure your mistake doesn't involve other people's felicity. Because if it is, then you are in trouble and miserable.

I think that is all I need to say. Thank you for your time reading this post. Let us pray and hope that this will help you direct or indirectly. Thank you.
